COVID-19 Update October 2020

What we’ve been up to.

During the lockdown period of April, May and June, Tim and Polly continued to work in the practice every day, providing an emergency eyecare service for the NHS – seeing patients from GP practices, 111 and A&E. This emergency service is still in operation and you can self-refer, provided your GP practice is in West Essex. Since July, we’ve gradually been able to resume routine appointments, prioritising those who needed to be seen first.

What we are doing now.

We are now able to see people for routine eyecare, so if you’re due for an appointment or you have any concerns about your eyes, do call us on 01992 572302 to arrange an appointment. There are strict limitations on how many people are allowed into the practice at any given time, so it’s always best to call us first and we will let you know when we can see you in person.

How we’re making your visit safe.

We are following advice from NHS England on how to make your visit to the practice as safe as possible for all of us. Here are some of the changes we’ve implemented:

  1. Door bell entry system to ensure safe number of people at any given time

  2. You must not come into the practice if you or any of your close contacts have COVID-19 or any symptoms of COVID-19

  3. Face masks must be worn by everyone, unless you’re exempt from wearing one

  4. Hand sanitising station on entry

  5. Optometrists wear full PPE

  6. Longer appointment times to allow for room cleaning and PPE change between patients

  7. Changes to some of the tests we carry out – reducing close contact time between us, for everyone’s safety
